TFM team member works with 'Groundwire'

groundwire

One of our TFM team members, Philip Tory, has begun to help as a volunteer coach with a Christian outreach organisation called Groundwire, to chat online to people with various needs. Here is what Philip sent us from the Groundwire website.

Groundwire is an international organisation whose aim is to provide those in need with the opportunity to chat online with a spiritual coach 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We aim to help them understand the hope that comes from knowing Jesus, by providing spiritual advice based on the teachings of the Bible. We are here to help those in need, those with questions, fears and worries. We are here to assist people who are feeling lost, addicted, sad, confused and in pain. We care and want the best for each person as an individual - we don't ever want anyone to think they had nobody to talk to, nobody who cared, nobody who would listen."

Groundwire is looking for more volunteers to help as coaches. Philip said that you have to be vetted and receive a bit of training but then you can make yourself available as much or as little as you can manage, so this is very flexible.

If you are interested take a look at their website: www.groundwire.org.uk or contact Philip at office@gloucesterevangelistsassociation.org.uk

Six Big Questions Grove Book Launched

Front cover 6BQ - author captu

The latest offering from Grove books is 'Six Big Questions - Wrestling with objections to the Christian faith' written by TFM's lead evangelist John Hibberd.

Grove describe the book:

"Christianity has not so much been tried and found wanting, as not been tried at all. This booklet explores the six main questions people raise as objections to Christian faith—the questions of science, suffering, who Jesus was, what difference he makes, what is a Christian and the Church.
It offers outline answers to each question and points on to further resources. Read it if you are willing to look at the questions—and answers—honestly and openly."

To accompnay the book John has produced a useful series of notes which can be found here on the TFM website.

If you are interested in purchasing a copy of the book please visit the Grove Book website.

Craigavon Mission April - 31st March to 8th April

escapologyRoger Murphy, TFM's associate evangelist, had a good but tough mission in Craigavon Northern Ireland.  Craigavon is an estate bulit in the late 60's where nearly all the churches were burnt down or bombed during the troubles.  The mission saw 70 responses from all ages many from those inside the church and others from the fringe.  The team managed a full week of events including: visiting schools, a Dads and Lads Night, a Men's breakfast, a Table Quiz, The Great Escape Show with Paul Woodman, Kids Club, Ladies Pamper night and a Community Fun Night.  They even managed to get into the local Tesco store for an afternoon of witness and sharing.

Roger writes ' I think that there will be an emerging sense of people coming out and owning faith as the dust settles !! Please pray for Myrtle Morrison and her Church Army team as they visit and follow up in the coming weeks.'

Drumcree NI U-Turn mission

Roger Murphy reports on a great mission in Drumcree with over 120 responses to the Gospel.

"As expected It was a spiritual battle all week with some illness on the team. However there were many instances of people especially a large number of men being convicted of their need for Christ and I had the pleasure of leading many of them to Christ.

On Sunday morning over 25 stood for Christ as a sign of their commitment to him,and two men came to the front to share how they had given their lives to him this week.It was interesting to see the men who came to Christ as many were very influential figures in the wider community.

God’s blessing continued to overflow as we saw many young children making a commitment as well as some older ones in groups and nursing homes. So many stories to tell and many others emerging – a full report will be posted asap.In the mean time please pray for Rev Gary Galway and his team as they visit and follow up this week and encourage everyone to come to an Alpha Supper on Mon March 26,and the course starting after Easter."

Worthing Central Mission preparation

Roger Murphy and David Culhane led a mission preparation weekend last weekend (March 2 - 4) and a very good and positive weekend it proved to be.  The Churches of Central and East Worthing are preparing for their mission 'More Than Gold' in June 2012.

There was a big turnout for the breakfast mission presentation and they visited most of the church leaders throughout the rest of Saturday. On Sunday they managed to speak at 6 churches with the help of Mission Preparer Andy Dean to prepare the churches.  There was a full house at St Matthews in the evening for a joint service.

We shall be taking around 2 teams to Worthing so if you wish to come please register your interest with the office. We will be looking for team members to come on the training weekend on 11/12 May and the mission itself from June 9-17.We already have a list of people who have shown interest and we will be in touch very soon.

Please continue to pray for mission programmes and the training event in May.

The team sizes for the Marshfield and Lacock / Neston areas were confirmed.

John will be returning for a preparation evening on March 22nd and some meetings around this with groups of churches to help finalise their programmes
